Activities at the Resort and in the Park

It's easy to find something to do at Burr Oak State Park Resort. The woodsy setting offers a variety of activities for guests of all ages. The rugged types may want to enjoy 40 miles of hiking trails, including a backpacking trip on the Buckeye Trail. Our 664-acre lake allows outboard motors up to 10 horsepower, and our marina offers four launch ramps and pontoon boat rides. A variety of activities include tennis, shuffleboard, volleyball, basketball, badminton, playground, horseshoes, fishing, and swimming.

On days you prefer to stay indoors, enjoy swimming in the pool or playing various parlor games, board games or ping-pong.

Swim

The lodge boasts a beautiful indoor pool, which is glass-enclosed floor to ceiling on one side and affords a wonderful view of the woods nearby. The outdoor swimming beach on Lake Burr Oak is only yards from the lodge and is a great place to kick back on a sunny summer's day.

Hike

There are a number of hiking trails within easy walking distance of the resort's front door. Take a stroll on the Chipmunk Trail, the Red Fox Trail or the Ravine Trail. For those interested in a longer hike you may wish to take the trail that loops completely around the lake, a total distance of 22 miles.

Fish

Resort guests have access to 664-acre Lake Burr Oak, which is well known for its catches of largemouth bass, crappie, bluegill and catfish.

Play Court Sports

The resort features lighted tennis and basketball courts, a sand volleyball court, shuffleboard, and horseshoes.

Boating

A 10 hp limit for boats is in effect on Lake Burr Oak. Four launch ramps provide access to the lake. Boat rentals, fuel and seasonal dock rentals are offered at the marina.

Experience Nature

Take a hike with lodge naturalist Lynn Barnhart who prides himself on his ability to answer the most difficult nature questions. Accompany Lynn on his pontoon boat rides where you will have an opportunity to encounter beaver, great blue heron, swans and other waterfowl. Don't miss the nature den, Lynn's own nature interpretation center. This "DO TOUCH" area is a must for young and old alike.

Children

Burr Oak offers a playground with swings and jungle gym. Plus there is plenty of space for playing ball, just running or enjoying the safe environment of Lynn's nature den. In the lodge, kids can play board games or enjoy the large family video library.

Entertainment

The lodge offers live entertainment on selected summer weekends. Check with Burr Oak staff for specific dates and times for events such as: Reuben Thorpe, the Mountain Man/Appalachian Storyteller; Dewey Chafin, our 18th Century Cherokee Indian Storyteller; Steve Pottmeyer, Country/Western Singer/Guitarist; Ron Scott, Easy Listening Guitarist; and The Full House Players presenting comedy mystery theatres with plenty of madness and mayhem.
